Provide Input on the Sunshine Ordinance Being Amended to Move to a Hearing Officer Model to Hear Sunshine Ordinance Complaints

BACKGROUND
On October 2, 2023, Mayor Ezzy Ashcraft and Councilmember Jensen submitted a Council Referral directing staff to draft an ordinance amending the Sunshine Ordinance to move to a hearing officer model to hear Sunshine Ordinance complaints. (See Exhibit 1) The referral included direction that the matter be placed on an Open Government Commission agenda to allow Commissioners to provide comments prior to staff drafting the ordinance.
The City Council approved the referral on January 16, 2024, so the matter is being presented to the Commission.
DISCUSSION
Per the direction in the referral, the matter has been placed on the agenda tonight for Commissioners prior to staff drafting the ordinance and Commissioners are invited to provide input.
