C. UPDATES

Bike Month Activities

Around 700 people joined the Bike Festival at Ruby Bridges Elementary on Saturday, May 2! Participants took bicycle safety workshops for all ages, got their bikes repaired, checked out BORP’s adaptive bicycles for people with disabilities, and stopped by the Home Electrification Fair held at the same time and place.

On May 14, we will celebrate Bike to Wherever Day and Bike to School Day in Alameda and regionwide. Stop by any of these Energizer Stations in Alameda for goodies and a bike bag:

                     City Hall (7-9a)

                     Main St and RAMP (7-10a)

                     Westside Joe’s Bikes (7a-6p)

                     Alameda Bicycle (10a-Noon)

                     Oakland Roots Facility (9a-1p)

Pacific Avenue/Wilma Chan Way Crossing Improvements

The City of Alameda is designing crossing improvements to enhance safety for all modes of travel and connectivity for walking and biking at the intersection of Pacific Avenue, a planned Neighborhood Greenway, and Wilma Chan Way.

Starting in late May, the City will host a public workshop and online survey to seek community input on Pacific/Wilma Chan intersection design alternatives. Alternatives will include different types of traffic signal treatments to improve safety and help people walking, biking, and rolling along Pacific Avenue cross Wilma Chan Way. At the same time, staff will seek input on concepts for Neighborhood Greenway designs for Pacific Avenue from Wilma Chan Way to 9th Street and 8th Street from Pacific Avenue to Jean Sweeney Park.

Oakland Alameda Water Shuttle

In April, the Water Shuttle carried 11,597 passengers and 3,202 bicycles. This is almost equal to average daily ridership in April 2025. Since launching the service, Woodstock has carried over 220,000 passengers and 51,000 bicycles.

While July will mark the end of the initial two-year pilot service, the Water Shuttle service will continue for another two years for an extended pilot period, with funding from Alameda CTC, the City’s two Transportation Management Associations, Port of Oakland/CIM, and the City. An evaluation of the first two-year pilot program will be developed and brought to the Council this fall.

Clement Avenue/Tilden Way Improvement Project

On May 18, contractors will begin constructing the roundabout at Clement Avenue/Tilden Way. During this time, there will be a road closure on Fernside Boulevard approaching Tilden Way, with a detour in place. More information and detour maps at:  <http://www.alamedaca.gov/clementtilden>

Oakland Alameda Access Project

Caltrans began Webster Tube construction in March with full closures on weeknights instead of an all-hours single-lane closure as originally planned. Posey Tube construction is likely to begin in 2027, and construction requirements will necessitate an all-hours single-lane closure in addition to full closures on a limited number of nights and weekends.
