Present: Chair Weitze, Vice Chair Suthanthira and Commissioners Dara-Abrams, Johnson, Kim, and Nachtigall.

Absent: Commissioner Gloyne

3.    2025-5000 - Staff Communications

 

Lisa Foster, Transportation Planning Manager, gave the Staff Communications update (*0:32). Sarah Henry, Communications & Legislative Affairs Officer, also gave an update on The Oakland Alameda Access Project.

Public Comment on Staff Communications

 

Jim Strehlow, (*13:09), discussed his thoughts on the Oakland Alameda Access Project. He shared his concerns about how project leaders didn’t know the area very well and were not doing a very good job of getting information out that would be helpful for traffic. 

 

4.    NON-AGENDA PUBLIC COMMENT - Anyone may speak for 3 minutes regarding any matter not on the agenda.

 

Vickie Teng (*16:10), discussed a letter she had sent about her concerns on the Fernside and Gibbons intersection. She felt that more public input and studies were needed.

 

Jim Strehlow (*17:32), discussed how he donated blood before the meeting and his experience getting there on his bike. He said there was a jogger in the bike lane and was coming straight at him, he wanted signage saying that bikes had the right of way on the bike lanes. He also discussed how he felt that there as a lack of education as a whole.

Commissioner Kim made a motion (*21:00) to approve the Consent Calendar and Commissioner Dara-Abrams seconded the motion. A roll call vote was taken, and the motion passed 5-0 with Vice Chair Suthanthira abstaining due to her absence at the meeting.

 

6.    Regular Agenda Items

 

6A. 2025-4998 - Discuss and Provide Comments on Transportation Projects to be

Included in the Capital Budget for Fiscal Years 2025-2026 & 2026-2027 (Discussion)

 

Scott Wikstrom, City Engineer, (*21:32) introduced this item and gave a presentation. Staff Report and attachments can be found:

Public Comment for Item 6A

 

Jim Strehlow (*40:52) discussed the Central Ave projects and all the one-way lanes that had been added and how frustrating they were and the lack of notifications about the one-way updates. He wanted to know if any of the budget could go to notifications and informing the public about changes.

 

Cyndy Johnson, via Zoom (*42:33) called on behalf of Bike Walk Alameda and discussed which projects they wanted to see completed.

6B. 2025-4999 - Review the City of Alameda Transportation Program Plan for Older

Adults and People with Disabilities for Fiscal Year 2025/2026 and Endorse a One-Year Extension of Pilot Programs (Action)

Public Comment for Item 6B

 

There were no public speakers.

 

Action for Item 6B

 

Chair Weitze made a motion (*1:55:11) to endorse the continuation of the Pilot Programs, Vice Chair Suthanthira seconded the motion. A vote was taken and the motion passed 6-0.

7.    Commission Communications

 

Vice Chair Suthanthira commented (*1:56:03) on Transportation Update presentation from the last meeting.

 

Commissioner Dara-Abrams discussed (*1:57:05) the bollards on the sidewalk on Webster and Haight. He did not feel that it was right that a business installed these without City permits.

Chair Weitze adjourned the meeting at 8:38 p.m.
