C. UPDATES

Clement Avenue Cross Alameda Trail and Truck Route

The new housing under construction at 2015 Grand Street is getting closer to completion. The developer is building a segment of Clement Avenue and the Cross Alameda Trail from Ohlone Avenue to Grand Street.

When this segment is completed, the Cross Alameda Trail will continue uninterrupted from Clement/Broadway to the Seaplane Lagoon Ferry Terminal. More information at <https://www.alamedaca.gov/cat>

The City of Alameda General Plan has long anticipated the official Truck Route moving to Clement Avenue once the roadway extension is complete. The City’s transportation engineers have determined that parking removal will be needed to safely accommodate two-way truck traffic at locations on Clement Ave between Hibbard Street and Entrance Road. The City is currently developing plans and will notify neighbors well in advance of changes.

Oakland Alameda Water Shuttle

In September, the Water Shuttle carried 12,481 passengers and 3,479 bicycles. Compared to September 2024, this represented a 12% bump in average daily riders and 34% overall increase in ridership thanks to the expanded schedule. The expanded schedule started in July and will be in place through November 2. After that, the Tuesday service will remain, but the longer weekend hours will be reduced through the winter months.

The Alameda CTC recently announced a staff recommendation to award $931,000 for the Water Shuttle to bring the full expanded schedule back in the spring and continue it for 19 months during Oakland Alameda Access Project construction. The full commission will consider approving this award later this month.

Neighborhood Greenways

Construction is scheduled to begin by November on Alameda’s first full segment of a Neighborhood Greenway, on Pacific Ave between Lafayette and Oak Streets. The project will pilot a Neighborhood Greenway using a combination of new and previously used traffic calming treatments along a continuous corridor. Residents along this section of Pacific Ave and nearby will be notified before construction begins. The Slow Streets barricades will be removed by the time construction is completed.

Lessons learned from the pilot along Pacific Ave will be incorporated into the designs for the remaining Slow Street segments of Pacific Ave, Versailles Ave, and San Jose Ave, which will be constructed by fall 2026.
