C. UPDATES
Traffic Safety Open House
The City held the 2024 Traffic Safety Open House on April 3. About 50 people attended, including the Mayor, Councilmembers Herrera Spencer and Jensen, and Transportation Commissioners Sam Soules and Saravana Suthanthira. KRON TV covered the event on the morning news. This event provides information from the Transportation Annual Reports, emphasizing the Vision Zero performance measures and the transportation accomplishments/work plan related to traffic safety, in addition to providing community members with a chance to ask questions and talk about traffic safety concerns.
Construction: Webster St
Updates on Webster St are underway, with the bulk of restriping complete.

Construction: Sherman/Clement/Atlantic Improvements
Construction is complete on updates as part of pavement restoration after East Bay MUD installed water mains. Crews added buffered bike lanes at some approaches, as well as new intersection pavement markings to define areas for pedestrians, bikes, and vehicles. City contractors added new concrete wheel stops and vertical delineators in the bike lane buffer areas to prevent vehicles from entering the bike lanes. The new intersection design positions drivers and manages auto turning speeds.
Construction: Clement Ave
Construction is underway on Clement Ave from Broadway to Grand St. Crews are currently removing train tracks from the roadway.

Construction: Cross Alameda Trail Signals
Cross Alameda Trail traffic signal improvements began construction in mid-January on Ralph Appezzato Memorial Parkway and Atlantic Avenue at five intersections between Wilma Chan Way and Main Street. The project will include a combination of new bike signals, left and right turn arrows, and “no right turn on red” restrictions as needed to increase safety at each intersection. In most cases, bicyclists on the Cross Alameda Trail will be automatically detected to eliminate the need for them to use pushbuttons.
