A. TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION UPDATES
2026 City Council actions on items reviewed by the Transportation Commission:
• January 20: City Council took no action on a Council Referral to consider placing the Mecartney Road configuration update on a future agenda.
• March 17: Accepted the Transportation 2025 Annual Report & 2026 Work Plan
• May 5: Approved a bike share pilot concept and funding
• July 21: Approved amendments to create a citation for parking in any type of bike lane
• July 21: Approved agreements for another two years of the Oakland Alameda Water Shuttle
• September 1: Approved submission of grant applications for five projects, including priority plan implementation with West End corridor paving, Neighborhood Greenways Phase 2, Grand Street Phase 3, Wooden Bridge replacement study, and Alameda High School Safe Routes to School infrastructure improvements
• September 15: Received presentation on the State of AC Transit by Director Sarah Syed and General Manager/Chief Executive Officer Salvador Llamas

C. UPDATES
Bike Share Docking Station Location Outreach Launched. Starting in Spring 2027, the City will launch a pilot docked bike-share program in West Alameda, joining the regional Lyft Bike system. The pilot program includes funding for eight docking stations in the West End. Community members are invited to learn more and provide input on the project map survey to help determine where the docking stations should go: <http://www.alamedaca.gov/bikeshare>.
The Cross Alameda Trail wins Best Bike Project. Bike East Bay selected Alameda’s Cross Alameda Trail as this year’s Best Bike Project, recognizing that after years of work and multiple phases, this project will be complete when the Clement/Tilden project finishes construction! The Cross Alameda Trail is a premiere cross-town, low-stress, four-mile bicycling and walking corridor connecting Seaplane Lagoon all the way to the Miller-Sweeney (Fruitvale) Bridge. Bike East Bay will present this award at their Biketopia event on September 16.
SFMTA and City of Oakland Staff Tour Alameda Streets. On July 29, SFMTA and City of Oakland transportation staff spent the afternoon touring Alameda bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure with City staff, in a bike ride including Central Ave roundabouts and separated bikeway, Pacific Ave Neighborhood Greenway segment, and the full Cross Alameda Trail from Clement/Tilden to Seaplane Lagoon. SFMTA staff requested this tour because they wanted to experience Alameda’s innovative projects.
Take precautions driving with sun glare. Daylight savings ends on November 1 this year. Until then, the sun on the horizon can be extra bright during morning commute hours. The City urges community members to take low visibility seriously while driving. Here are tips:
• Defrost your windshields before driving, and make sure they are clean, inside and out.
• Wear sunglasses and use the car’s sun visor on sunny days.
• Reduce your speed as you approach intersections.
• Watch out for vulnerable road users - pedestrians, bicyclists, motorcyclists.
• Adjust your travel plans - departure time or route - to avoid the sun’s glare.
• If you can’t see, safely pull over until you can.
