Title

Accept Status Report on Transportation (Action Item)

Body

To: Honorable Chair and Members of the Transportation Commission

BACKGROUND

The Annual Report on Transportation shows City progress towards its goals, as well as priority actions for the coming year. The Transportation Choices Plan requires annual reports that the City Council endorses each year. The Transportation Commission endorsed the 2022 Annual Report on Transportation on January 26, then the City Council accepted it on April 19. The Annual Report is available here:

<https://www.alamedaca.gov/files/assets/public/departments/alameda/transportation/quarterlyreports/annualreporttransportation_jan2022_final3.pdf>

While there is no requirement for reports during the year, staff have been providing status reports to the Transportation Commission in May and September each year. This year the status reports provide updates on the “2022 Work Program” section of the Annual Report’s Executive Summary.

DISCUSSION

The May 2022 Status Report on Transportation includes work completed from January-March this year as part of the 2022 Transportation Work Program. It is attached as Exhibit 1.

FINANCIAL IMPACT

The Status Report provides updates on ongoing projects; on its own it has no financial impact.

ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW

Acceptance of the Status Report on Transportation is statutorily exempt from environmental review under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) pursuant to CEQA Guidelines Section 15061(b)(3), the general rule that CEQA only applies to actions that have the potential to cause a significant impact on the environment.

CLIMATE IMPACT

Since vehicle miles traveled in Alameda is the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in Alameda, City staff expects that multimodal transportation improvements will have a positive climate impact.

RECOMMENDATION

Accept the Status Report on Transportation.

Respectfully submitted,

Lisa Foster, Senior Transportation Coordinator
