C. UPDATES
Gold-Level Bicycle Friendly Community Award
The City of Alameda recently received the League of American Bicyclists' Gold-level Bicycle Friendly Community Award. Of the 444 communities receiving awards this year, only 32 are at the gold level and 3 at the platinum level.
Alameda's journey to this honor reflects a decade of steady progress, starting with a Bronze Award in 2016 and a Silver Award in 2021. Recent commitments that helped raise Alameda to gold include approving the Active Transportation Plan, advancing the Cross Alameda Trail to near completion, and launching the Oakland-Alameda Water Shuttle. Note that these initiatives, like all bicycle infrastructure projects in Alameda, include safety and/or access improvements for pedestrians as well as bicyclists.
