EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This item is a regularly occurring agenda item to discuss the City of Alameda's Housing and Human Services. The Social Service Human Relations Board (SSHRB) oversees the City's social services programs, including those designed to alleviate homelessness in Alameda and help individuals and families currently experiencing homelessness.
BACKGROUND
This item is a regularly occurring agenda item to discuss the City of Alameda's Housing and Human Services. SSHRB advises the City Council on the City's social services programs, including those designed to alleviate homelessness in Alameda and helping individuals and families currently experiencing homelessness.
In October 2021, the Alameda City Council approved the Road Home: A Five-Year Plan to Prevent and Respond to Homelessness in Alameda. Bi-annual status reports on the progress of the Plan's strategies were reported to SSHRB on August 25, 2022, January 26, 2023, and July 27, 2023.
The Point-in-Time Count (PIT) occurs every other year and is a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) mandated count of individuals and families experiencing homelessness. The count helps inform funding and the assignment of services to individuals experiencing homelessness. EveryOneHome will be coordinating the next PIT on January 25, 2024. Volunteers are needed to complete surveys of households experiencing unsheltered homelessness from 5:00 to 10:00 am.
