PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, from the days of the American Revolution to the current global war on terror, women have bravely served the United States of America; and
WHEREAS, many women have been wounded and some have made the ultimate sacrifice for their service; and
WHEREAS, California is home to 185,000 women veterans; and
WHEREAS, women are the fastest growing group within the veteran population, doubling their numbers in the last 30 years; and
WHEREAS, women contribute to an important and growing role in the United States military, 14% of active duty deployed soldiers are women; and
WHEREAS, women have selflessly fought for the liberties enjoyed in the United States and defended our way of life.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Trish Herrera Spencer, Mayor of the City of Alameda, do hereby proclaim March as Women in Military History Month in the City of Alameda.
Be IT FURTHER RESOLVED that I express my thanks to the women in the military who have served courageously and honorably in all campaigns, and urge all Alamedans to join me in thanking all women who have served and are serving our nation as members of the United States Armed Forces.
