EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

On July 18, 2023, the City Council awarded a contract to W. Bradley Electric, LLC. for the Ralph Appezzato Memorial Parkway (RAMP) Intersection Modifications Project.

Intersection and traffic signal modifications were completed at RAMP and Main Street, Third Street, Poggi Street, Webster Street, and Wilma Chan Way. The work included the installation of new traffic signal poles and foundations, traffic signal equipment, bicycle signal indications, signage, pavement striping and markings, Americans with Disability Act (ADA) curb ramps, and installation of pedestrian push buttons that are ADA compliant.
The improvements executed under the contract are complete and acceptable to staff. Staff is recommending City Council accept the work.

BACKGROUND

The project includes modification of five traffic signals between Main Street and Wilma Chan Way on RAMP and Atlantic Avenue. Dedicated bicycle signal phases were added at RAMP/Main, Ramp/Atlantic/Webster, and Atlantic/Wilma Chan intersections including the prohibition of right turn movements to minimize conflicts with bicycle and pedestrian crossings. The improvements will improve safety by reducing conflicts between vehicles, pedestrians, and bicycles using the Cross Alameda Trail.

DISCUSSION
