Title

Presentation on the Status of Dignity Village Funding and Plan for Long Term Sustainability

Body

To: Honorable President Gerald Bryant and Members of the Social Service Human Relations Board

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Dignity Village was developed with significant State, Federal, and local investments to provide safe, dignified interim housing for people experiencing homelessness.

However, the funding that supported the development and initial operation of these programs was intended to be temporary during and following the COVID-19 pandemic and has expired or will expire in the coming years. City staff is exploring different options to ensure Dignity Village is financially sustainable for the long term. Housing and Human Services Division Manager, C’Mone Falls, will give an update to the SSHRB on the status of those efforts.

BACKGROUND

Dignity Village was developed with significant State, Federal, and local investments to provide safe, dignified interim housing for people experiencing homelessness. The 47-unit facility is currently operating successfully and provides stable shelter and supportive services to individuals and households who would otherwise have limited options for accessing housing.

The funding sources that helped build and maintain operations of the facility are approaching their expiration and Housing and Human Services staff in partnership with the City Manager’s office are exploring options to ensure Dignity Village is financially sustainable for the long term. Housing and Human Services Division Manager, C’Mone Falls, will give an update to the SSHRB on the status of those efforts.

DISCUSSION

Housing and Human Services Division Manager, C’Mone Falls, will give an update to the SSHRB on the status of Dignity Village funding and the plan for long term sustainability.

RECOMMENDATION
