REGULAR MEETING OF THE
CITY OF ALAMEDA HISTORICAL ADVISORY BOARD
THURSDAY, AUGUST 7, 2014
1. CONVENE: 7:02 p.m.
2. ROLL CALL: Present: Chair Owens, Vice Chair Rauk, Board Member Chan, and Piziali. Absent: Board member Vella.

7. REGULAR AGENDA ITEMS:
7-A. Presentation on Secretary of the Interior Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties. The board will not take any action on this item. It is intended as an information and discussion item only
Mr. Allen Tai, Secretary to the Board, introduced Christopher VerPlanck, historic preservation consultant.
Mr. VerPlanck, gave a presentation on the Secretary of the Interior's Standards, and then presented three case studies for the Board. Mr. Tai also presented three case studies of staff applying the standards and design guidelines to local projects.
There was a brief discussion about the applicability of tax credits on historic preservation projects.
Speakers:
Mr. Christopher Buckley, resident, thanked staff for the presentation. He referred to Preservation Brief 14, Figures 6 and 7, which refers to additions being subordinate to original structure. Figure 11 refers to architectural design treatments. He asked about tax credits for the DeYoung building in San Francisco.
Mr. Jim Smallman, resident, shared with the Board a residential project he was involved in, built in 1890. He asked for an observation critique.

Mr. Tai explained there have been three design approvals by staff.
Chair Owens asked about the Times Star building, and Mound Street project.
