EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
On November 7, 2023, City Council awarded the Fire Station No. 4 Dormitory Conversion and Renovation Project to Branco Construction, Inc. The project converted a single sleeping bay into seven separate gender-neutral sleeping rooms designed to increase privacy and reduce sleep deprivation. The construction scope executed under the subject agreement is complete and acceptable to Public Works. Staff recommends City Council authorize the City Manager to accept the work.
BACKGROUND
Fire Station No. 4 is located at the corner of Mecartney Road and Aughinbaugh Way on Bay Farm Island. It is a single-story firefighting facility, designed and constructed in 1989. Despite its age, the facility is in good condition with contemporary design and code compliance. Accommodations include: a kitchen, sleeping quarters, separate male and female restrooms, locker rooms and showers, laundry facilities, a dining room, a day room, and an exercise room.
Prior to the conversion, the sleeping quarters for the entire crew was a large single room comprised of seven sleeping stations separated only by stub walls and curtains.
