EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The City of Alameda (City) issued plans and specifications for the Park Street Commercial Street Restriping Project, No. P.W. 01-24-02 on March 1, 2024. The project will modify the pavement markings and curb paint on Park Street between San Jose Avenue and Webb Avenue to improve access for motor vehicles, persons with disabilities, commercial loading, transit, bicyclists, and pedestrians. Staff recommends that the City Council award the contract to Chrisp Company, the lowest responsive bidder, in an amount not-to-exceed $239,144, including contingency.
BACKGROUND
On November 7, 2023, City Council approved striping plans for the Park Street and Webster Street commercial streets. The striping changes include moving on-street parking to the curb, adding bicycle lanes, preserving the existing parklets, and establishing painted curb zones for disabled parking, short-term parking and loading areas. Red curbs will also be added to areas where no parking is permitted at any time.
Staff coordinated with the Business Districts and several business owners with parklets to modify or rebuild parklets in advance of the restriping. These changes have been completed. The Webster Street restriping was implemented under a separate agreement.
