Body
To: Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This is a status report on the Public Art Fund (Fund) activity for the City of Alameda. In 2024, the public art program awarded eight Cultural Arts and Arts Programming grants totaling $60,000. The most recent contribution to the Fund was $320,314.06 an in-lieu feed paid for the Alameda Pennzoil site. Additionally, Alameda Point Redevelopers (owners of the Storehouse Lofts) will deliver onsite art valued at $150,000 and submit a complete onsite art application. Together with City staff, they will present the proposed art to the Public Art Commission (PAC) at its regularly scheduled meeting on May 19, 2025.
BACKGROUND
The Public Art Ordinance (Alameda Municipal Code Section 30-98) requires that major development projects include public art on site or pay a fee in-lieu of providing the onsite artwork. Any in-lieu fees collected are deposited in the dedicated Fund. The Fund can then only be used by the City to provide or support public art. The Fund has a current available balance of $1,310,307.13.
