EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

On March 15, 2022 (File no. 2022-1758), City Council authorized the City Manager to execute a three-year agreement with Chrisp Company for the Sign and Striping Maintenance Project (Agreement) in an amount not-to-exceed $723,777. For year two of the project, staff is focusing on refreshing pavement markings, extending bicycle facilities, and improving traffic safety on Main Street, between Ralph Appezzato Memorial Parkway and Navy Way. In order to proceed with this work, staff is requesting City Council authorize a First Amendment to the Agreement increasing the compensation amount for year two from $240,620 to $284,824, an increase of $44,204; and increasing total compensation for the Agreement to an amount not-to-exceed $767,931. This increase is necessary to incorporate all planned pedestrian and bicycle safety improvements.

BACKGROUND

In 2019, staff used the Sign and Striping Maintenance Project to implement a road diet on Main Street from Pacific Avenue to the ferry terminal. This converted the previously, four-lane roadway to two travel lanes with a striped median, a turn lane, or two-way left-turn lane, and two bike lanes.
