Executive Summary
At the October 26, 2023 SSHRB meeting, SSHRB members expressed interest in having a future agenda item on disaster preparedness for the City of Alameda’s vulnerable populations. Fire Caption Dallas Andrews, the Disaster Preparedness Coordinator for the City of Alameda’s Fire Department, will speak at the December 7, 2023 SSHRB meeting and answer any questions.
Background
At the October 26, 2023 SSHRB meeting, under “Board Communications, Non-Agenda”, Board President Means circulated a copy of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) Disaster Resilience Tool Kit (Exhibit 1), which he thought could be insightful to other Board Members.
Board Member Buchholz expressed interest in adding an agenda item to a future meeting to discuss the Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drill and how SSHRB can help the community prepare for the possibility of a natural disaster. The International Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drill was held on October 19, 2023, where people in California and worldwide participated in earthquake safety drills.
Discussion
City staff invited Fire Caption Dallas Andrews, the Disaster Preparedness Coordinator for the City of Alameda’s Fire Department to speak at the December 7, 2023 SSHRB meeting and to answer any questions.
