EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The City of Alameda (City) Recreation and Parks Department manages over 300 acres of parks. Well-lit park pathways are fundamental to maintaining a safe and healthy community.
On September 15, 2025, the City issued plans and specifications for the Lincoln Park Lighting Project, No. P.W. 04-25-08. Following a competitive bidding process, staff recommends that the City Council authorize the City Manager to execute an agreement with Bay Area Lightworks, Inc. (Bay Area Lightworks), the lowest responsive and responsible bidder, for a total amount of $353,100, which includes a 10% contingency.
BACKGROUND
The City's park system is a vital component of the City's infrastructure and quality of life. Parks provide open space for recreation, relaxation and community connection. Proper lighting of park pathways supports public safety and accessibility by improving visibility, deterring crime, and creating a comfortable environment for pedestrians.
The Lincoln Park Lighting Project replaces the existing pathway lighting systems, including poles, foundations and all underground electrical infrastructure. A new, dedicated electrical service will also be installed to support the updated lighting system.
DISCUSSION
