Title
Recommendation For the Public Art Commission to Discuss Eligibility Criteria for Cultural Arts and Arts Programming Grantees
Body
To: Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This report outlines the request for the Public Art Commission (PAC) to discuss eligibility criteria for Cultural Arts and Arts Programming grantees.
BACKGROUND
The City of Alameda’s (City’s) Public Art Ordinance (Alameda Municipal Code Section 30-98) created the Alameda Public Art Fund to be used for cultural arts and arts programming. The current eligibility requirements do not consider the number of times a grantee can apply for and be awarded a Cultural Arts and Arts Programming grant.
Due to past public comments about repeat grantees, and equitable distribution of resources, staff are recommending the PAC discuss whether the eligibility criteria should be modified, for example, to consider the number of times or frequency a grantee can apply for and be awarded a Cultural Arts and Arts Programming grant.
DISCUSSION
Staff are recommending the PAC discuss the eligibility criteria for Cultural Arts and Arts Programming Grantees. If a modification is proposed and approved by the PAC at its January 22, 2025 meeting, the eligibility criteria will be updated for the upcoming 2025 Cultural Arts and Arts Programming RFP.
ALTERNATIVES
• Make no changes to the eligibility criteria for Cultural Arts and Arts Programming Grantees.
RECOMMENDATION
Recommendation for the Public Art Commission to discuss eligibility Criteria for Cultural Arts and Arts Programming grantees.
Respectfully submitted,
Jackie Keliiaa, Development Manager
Secretary, Public Art Commission
