Recommendation to Approve the 2024 Social Service Human Relations Board (SSHRB) Meeting Schedule with Any Necessary Changes

Body

To: Honorable President Scott Means and Members of the Social Service Human Relations Board

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This item is to approve SSHRB's 2024 schedule.

BACKGROUND

At its August 26, 2021 meeting, the Social Service Human Relations Board (SSHRB) voted to recommend that the City Council, Boards and Commissions survey their members at the beginning of each year to determine potential scheduling conflicts, such as non-Federal holidays and other events, that would inhibit public participation and reschedule those meetings as necessary. The City Council unanimously approved the recommendation at its December 7, 2021 meeting.

* May 23
* June 27
* July 25
* August 22
* September 26
* October 24
* November 28-to be canceled because of the Thanksgiving Holiday. As in the past, staff recommends that the November and December meetings be combined into a single meeting in the beginning of December.
* December 5-in place of having a meeting on December 26 due to the winter holidays and vacations.

Staff recommends that the Board reviews the proposed schedule to determine potential conflicts that would inhibit public participation and reschedules those meetings accordingly with the Board's approval. Also, in past meetings, there has been some comments or inquiries by Board members about possibly having a summer recess in August, similar to the City Council. Staff does not recommend this at this time since it would reduce the total number of meetings from eleven to ten and reduce the continuity between meetings.

Recommendation

Staff recommends that the Board reviews and approves the 2024 SSHRB meeting schedule with any...
