BACKROUND

On March 20, 2012, the City Council awarded a contract to Water Works Engineers Inc. for engineering design services for the relocation of two existing sewer mains (lagoon seawall and Clinton Avenue extension). The regional sewer facilities are being relocated from under existing homes and removed from the lagoon wall and new sewer connections are being made in the street right-of-way along Hawthorne and St. Charles Streets as part of the regional sewer relocation. The sewer relocation requires a new 15-foot wide public sewer easement to be dedicated and accepted through two private parcels located at the end of Hawthorne Street. Final design plans are estimated to be completed in July 2014.

DISCUSSION

The new 15-foot wide sewer easement will be used to install a new 8" public sewer main and connect two existing manholes along a 101-foot section of Hawthorne Street that has no public sewer main installed. The new sewer easement is located directly between and adjacent to 1200 and 1231 Hawthorne Street and runs between two existing single-family homes within their side yard driveway and landscaped area.
