CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. _____

COMMENDING STEWART G. CHEN FOR TWO YEARS OF SERVICE TO
THE CITY OF ALAMEDA AS COUNCILMEMBER

WHEREAS, Stewart G. Chen began his service with the City of Alameda in 2001 when he was appointed to the Social Service Human Relations Board, where he served until October 2008; and

WHEREAS, while on the Social Service Human Relations Boards, Stewart G. Chen served as Vice President of the Board and supported the Board's mission of goodwill, tolerance, and understanding by serving on several of the Board's workgroups including: Assessment and Awareness, Alamedans Together Against Hate, as well as founding and chairing of the Sister City Workgroup; and

WHEREAS, in 2005, while chairing the Sister City Workgroup, Stewart G. Chen was instrumental in establishing a Sister City relationship with Jiangyin, China and a Friendship City relationship with Wuxi, China; and

WHEREAS, in 2010 Stewart G. Chen was elected to the City of Alameda Healthcare District, and served until 2012; during his time with the Health Care District, Stewart G. Chen assisted with the creation of the Kate Creedon Center for Advanced Wound Care and the Orthopedic Spinal Surgery Department, helped balance the hospital budget with a projected surplus, as well as maintain labor peace; and

WHEREAS, Stewart G. Chen was elected to the Alameda City Council on November 6, 2012 and served until December 16, 2014; and

WHEREAS, in 2013, Stewart G. Chen brought forward three resolutions, the first designating an open space wildlife reserve at Alameda Point, the second supporting Assembly Bill 1324 which would increase vehicle registration surcharge fees to combat car theft, and the third supporting comprehensive immigration reform; and
