WHEREAS, the American Red Cross is dedicated to preventing and alleviating human suffering in the face of emergencies, and has touched many lives in Alameda, across the country, and around the world; and
WHEREAS, American Red Cross heroes are on the front lines every day, volunteering their time, giving blood, taking life-saving courses, or providing financial donations to help those in need; and
WHEREAS, the American Red Cross Bay Area provides 24-hour support to members of the military, veterans, and their families, as well as provides training in CPR, aquatics safety, and first aid; and      
WHEREAS, the American Red Cross Bay Area works tirelessly through its nearly 3,000 volunteers to support communities when disaster strikes, when someone needs life-saving blood, life-saving support, or the comfort of a helping hand; and
WHEREAS,  American Red Cross Bay Area Disaster Services provide immediate and effective response to victims of fires in the City of Alameda, as underscored by their invaluable assistance to families displaced by the September 24, 2014 Arson Fires; and
WHEREAS, the American Red Cross has served Alamedans for more than 120 years, and, in addition to the programs mentioned above, offers Red Cross Youth Clubs in our schools, and is a valuable partner in all aspects of Alameda's Road to Resiliency efforts.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Trish Herrera Spencer, Mayor of the City of Alameda, do hereby proclaim March 2015 as American Red Cross Month and urge Alameda residents to thank the American Red Cross heroes who volunteer their time, give blood, take life-saving courses, provide financial support, and reach out to those in need on a daily basis.
