Re: Presentation on the City's Economic Development programs and initiatives and status of the Economic Development Strategic Plan, and Recommendation to Establish the Mayor's Economic Development Advisory Panel in lieu of Re-Establishing an Economic Development Commission.

BACKGROUND

At its March 17, 2015 meeting, the City Council considered a Referral item by Vice Mayor Matarrese to re-establish an Economic Development Commission. (Exhibit 1) The Referral was continued to the April 7, 2015 meeting, and staff was directed to provide Council with: 1) a presentation on the City's Economic Development programs and initiatives and status of the Economic Development Strategic Plan; and 2) a recommendation regarding re-establishing an Economic Development Commission.

DISCUSSION

Please see the attached PowerPoint presentation to be presented by Economic Development staff which responds to Council's direction resulting from the above referenced Referral item. (Exhibit 2)

FINANCIAL IMPACT

There is no primary impact on the General Fund. The primary financial impact will be in the form of staff costs. Staffing will be absorbed within existing staff workloads.

ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW

This action does not involve commitment to any project which may result in a potentially significant physical impact on the environment and is exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), pursuant to CEQA Guidelines section 15378(b)(4).
