Re: Adopt a Resolution Adding Additional 2015 Regular City Council Meeting Dates
BACKGROUND
On December 2, 2014, the City Council adopted Resolution 14987 setting the 2015 regular City Council meeting dates. The meetings were set for the first and third Tuesday of the month, except for the month August in which no meetings are held.
DISCUSSION
Staff would like Council to consider adding one additional regular meeting per month on the second Wednesday of the month, with the exception of November, which would be held the first Wednesday due to the Veterans' Day holiday. When the City Council met as the Alameda Reuse and Redevelopment Authority (ARRA), regular meetings were held on Wednesday nights. Adding one regular meeting per month would provide an opportunity for Council to more thoroughly discuss complex matters, such as Alameda Point, introduce ordinances and potentially shorten all other regular Council Meetings. If there is not sufficient need for a Wednesday meeting, the meeting could be canceled. In December 2015, the City Council will adopt the 2016 meeting schedule and the meetings can resume being held on the first and third Tuesday of the month, except for August in which no meetings are held.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
There is no financial impact from adding additional regular Council meeting dates because staff will be presenting the same amount of items, the matters will just be spread across three nights, rather than two.

RECOMMENDATION
