Whereas, the City of Alameda encourages residents to bike to work and school; and
 
Whereas, bicycling to work and to school reduces traffic congestion, improves air quality, promotes healthy lifestyles, and decreases fuel consumption; and
 
Whereas, Bike-to-Work and Bike-to-School days are  effective in converting drivers to bicyclists, and educating residents about the environmental and health benefits of biking to work and to school; and
Whereas, Bike Walk Alameda, in partnership with the City, the Alameda Unified School District, and the Alameda County Safe Routes to School Program, has created and organized events to promote the safe use of bicycles and to assist in making the City of Alameda a more bike-friendly city; and
Now, therefore be it resolved, that I, Trish Herrera Spencer, Mayor of the City of Alameda, do hereby proclaim Thursday, May 14, 2015 as Alameda Bike to Work Day, and Alameda Bike to School Day.
Be it further resolved, that I, Trish Herrera Spencer, Mayor of the City of Alameda, commend Bike Walk Alameda for its partnership with the City and encourage all residents to join with the City of Alameda Public Works Department, Kaiser Permanente, Alameda Unified School District, Alameda County Safe Routes to School Program, Alameda/Oakland Ferry Service, Alameda Harbor Bay Ferry Service, and local volunteers and businesses in supporting the City of Alameda's Bike-to-Work Day and Bike-to-School Day; and invite all Alameda residents, businesses, civic groups, government agencies, and other organizations to participate in local and regional celebratory and educational activities.
