Re: Presentation of Alameda Recreation and Parks Department FY 2014-2015 Annual Report

BACKGROUND

Since 2013, the Alameda Recreation and Parks Department (ARPD) has presented its Annual Report to City Council in the month of July, which is recognized by the National Recreation and Parks Association as Parks and Recreation Month.  See Exhibit 1 for the Alameda Recreation and Parks Department Annual Report for Fiscal Year 2014-2015.

DISCUSSION

ARPD staff has compiled Department highlights throughout the Fiscal Year of 2014-2015.

The Report discusses in detail program highlights for the Recreation Services, Park Maintenance and Mastick Senior Center Divisions. The Report shows the number of registered and drop-in participants for ARPD programs and the budget for this Fiscal Year. In addition, it provides updates on capital improvements projects plus challenges and opportunities that ARPD has faced, such as water restrictions, minimum wage increases, and opportunities to create more programs for mentally and physically challenged youth and adults.  Lastly, the Report shares ideas for all Alamedans to enjoy during the month of July.
