Re: Economic Development Update
BACKGROUND
The City of Alameda won a prominent sustainable development award for its redevelopment of the former U.S. Navy Fleet Industrial Supply Center (FISC) at Alameda Landing. The Phoenix Award is given annually to outstanding “brownfield” redevelopment projects in each of the ten regional districts of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The award presentation was made at the National Brownfields Conference, held in Chicago on September 3, 2015.
The City of Alameda also recently produced a promotional video, which was featured at the annual International City/County Management Association (ICMA) Conference, held in Seattle on September 10, 2015.
DISCUSSION
See attached Phoenix Award PowerPoint presentation. The promotional video will be shown at the City Council meeting and linked to the City’s website.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
There is no financial impact to the City’s General Fund.
MUNICIPAL CODE/POLICY DOCUMENT CROSS REFERENCE
These economic development activities are consistent with the City’s Economic Development Strategic Plan.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
This presentation does not require environmental review because it is not a project as defined by the California Environmental Quality Act (“CEQA”). CEQA Guidelines, section 15378(b).

This economic development update is for informational purposes only. No action is required.
