ALAMEDANS TOGETHER AGAINST HATE (ATAH) WORKGROUP PLANNING MEETING

Body

Alamedans Together Against Hate (ATAH) is a workgroup of the Social Service Human Relations Board, whose purpose is to promote civility, respect, and goodwill in the community, and to work as advocates to address and respond to acts of discrimination and intolerance.

ATAH Workgroup members include SSHRB vice-president, Jennifer Williams - chair, and members Nicole Blake and Mark Sorensen. Vice-president Williams has invited the entire Board to join the workgroup in a meeting to discuss and plan ATAH projects and activities through FY- 2016/17.

Past ATAH efforts include the development and coordination of the 2002 “No Room for Hate in Alameda” campaign, advocacy for the AUSD Lesson 9 curriculum, and co-sponsorship of screenings of BULLY, MILK, and Facing Fear. ATAH members participate in meetings of the AUSD LGBTQ roundtable, and annual Season for Nonviolence and Harvey Milk Day activities.

New projects and activities for discussion include participation in the AUSD “Everyone Belongs Here” campaign, and a community response to incidents of discrimination toward Alameda’s Muslim community.

RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the Board discuss and calendar opportunities for ATAH to participate in mission-related projects and activities, now through June 30, 2017.
