Re: Recommendation to Amend a Contract to Extend the Term for One Year to Coastland Civil Engineering, Inc. for Contract Engineering Services.
BACKGROUND
The City of Alameda's City Engineer position was vacant between August of 2013 and March 2016. After a formal Request for Proposal process, in June 2015 the City Council awarded a $100,000 contract to Coastland Civil Engineering, Inc. (Coastland) to provide municipal engineering services. As of July 2016, $81,998.78 of the $100,000 has been spent.
DISCUSSION
Although the City now has an in-house full time City Engineer; Coastland is currently working with the new City Engineer to finish an update to the City specifications and standards. A contract term extension is needed to complete this work. Staff expects an additional $15,000 to be spent and billed to the applicable capital project.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
This is an extension of the contract term only. For each engineering project that Coastland has involvement, their cost of services will be billed to that particular capital project. There is no impact to the General Fund.
MUNICIPAL CODE/POLICY DOCUMENT CROSS REFERENCE
This action does not affect the Municipal Code.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
The California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) applies only to projects which have the potential for causing a significant effect on the environment. Any specific project that Coastland is involved with will go through separate environmental review.
RECOMMENDATION
Amend a contract to extend the term for one year to Coastland Civil Engineering, Inc. for contract engineering services.
