Proclamation
Whereas, the City of Alameda acknowledges that a special vibrancy exists within the entire community when its individual citizens collectively "go the extra mile" in personal effort, volunteerism, and service; and
Whereas, the City of Alameda chooses to acknowledge and celebrate individuals and organizations within our community who give of themselves wholeheartedly and with commitment in the support of programs, services, and activities that help make Alameda a better place in which to live; and
Whereas, the City of Alameda acknowledges the mission and spirit of Extra Mile America, which is to create 500 Extra Mile cities in America, and is proud to support "Extra Mile Day" on November 1, 2016; and
Whereas, the Social Service Human Relations Board held its third annual City of Alameda Community Service Awards program, presenting Joyce Denyven with a Life-time Achievement Award for her more than 50 years of service to our community, and Juelle-Ann Boyer, Jill Gorman, Ed Kofman, Derek Au, Mary Carmen Reid, and the Alameda Boys and Girls Club for their extraordinary dedication and service to the citizens and City of Alameda; and
Whereas, this year, the Social Service Human Relations Board added a Business or Business Person Community Service Awards category and recognized Kate Pryor and Tucker's Super Creamed Ice Cream's support of Alameda's youth and non-profits for more than twenty-five years, and Faction Brewing for their support of Alameda's schools and non-profits, and for raising more than $150,000 for Breast Cancer Awareness and Lou Gehrig's Disease.
Now, therefore, be it resolved, that I, Trish Herrera Spencer, Mayor of the City of Alameda do hereby proclaim November 1, 2016 as Extra Mile Day in the City of Alameda and encourage community members to take time on this day to "go the extra mile" and also acknowledge all those who are inspiration...
