Whereas, Doug Siden, a resident of Alameda, California has served on the East Bay Regional Park District (Park District) Board of Directors as the representative for the City of Alameda since November 1992; and

Whereas, during his 24-year tenure on the Park District Board, Doug continued to champion efforts to promote access and improve Alameda's parks and shoreline; and
Whereas, Doug strongly advocated to help the Park District pass Measures CC and WW, which provided critical funding for Alameda projects including improving tennis courts throughout our city, construction of the Alameda Boys & Girls Club, building Estuary Park Athletic Fields, building a new playground at Tillman Park, and replacing the Krusi Park Recreation Center; and
Whereas, Doug's dedication and commitment are apparent in the well-established partnership between the Park District and the City on many Alameda recreational facilities, such as the Bay Trail connecting the Encinal Boat Launch Facility and the U.S.S. Hornet, Crab Cove and Crown Memorial Beach, Encinal Beach, and the Washington Dog Park; and

Whereas, this partnership has also led to many joint community events including the Sandcastle and Sand Sculpture Contest which just celebrated its 50th year, the annual Egg Scramble at Crab Cove, and Coastal Cleanup Days; and
Whereas, Doug also served for many years on the East Bay Economic Development Alliance's Executive Board; a founding member and chairperson of the Martin Luther King Freedom Center in Oakland; founded the San Leandro Creek Alliance; led the fight to establish the Alameda County Creek and Watershed Symposium; and was appointed by Secretary of the Interior Bruce Babbit to the advisory committee of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and Point Reyes National Seashore; and
Whereas, he has proudly served as a longtime Alameda Rotarian; and
