Re: Amend a Contract to Extend the Term for One Year to Schaaf & Wheeler for the Preparation of Engineering Documents for the Upgrade of the City of Alameda Sewer Pump Stations, Phase 2, No. P.W. 12-10-34.

BACKGROUND

In accordance with requirements of the Final Consent Decree for Case Nos. C09-00186 and 09-05684, the Public Works Department is upgrading fifteen (15) existing sanitary sewer pump stations to limit public health impacts associated with sanitary sewer overflows and to improve reliability and safety. In February 2011, the City Council awarded a contract in the amount of $93,373 to Schaaf & Wheeler for engineering design services for phase 2 of the Alameda's sewer pump station upgrades. Since that time, the contract has been extended five times and $50,247 was added, for a total contract of $143,620. To date, two of three groups within phase 2 have been constructed. As of July 2016, $132,805 has been spent under this contract.

DISCUSSION

The first four amendments extend the contract term only, for the preparation of engineering documents for the upgrade of Alameda's sewer pump stations. The Fifth Amendment extended the term and increased the budget by $50,247 for bid and engineering support services during construction. The Public Works Department is asking for a sixth amendment to extend the term only, as the design work is complete and construction is expected to be complete within a few months. At that time the project will be brought back to City Council for acceptance.
