Amending Alameda Municipal Code by Repealing Section 3-59 (Utility Users Tax) in Its Entirety and Replacing It with a New Section 3-59 (Utility Users Tax).

BACKGROUND

Elections Code Section 10262 requires the governing body of a city to adopt a resolution declaring the results of an election.

DISCUSSION

Attached are the Certificates of Election for the Consolidated General Municipal Election held on November 8, 2016.

Offices:
Candidates Malia (Mary) Vella and Marilyn Ezzy Ashcraft received the highest number of votes cast for and were therefore elected to the office of Councilmember. Candidate Kevin Kearney received the highest number of votes cast for and was therefore elected to the office of Auditor. Candidate Kevin Kennedy received the highest number of votes cast for and was therefore elected to the office of Treasurer.

Measures:
Measure K1, the Utility Modernization Act, passed by a majority vote.

Measure L1, the Rent Stabilization Act, passed by a majority vote.

Measure M1, the Proposed City of Alameda Charter Amendment to Establish Rent Control, a Rent Control Board, and Regulate Termination of Tenancies, did not pass because it did not receive a majority vote.

FINANCIAL IMPACT

The funds for this election are budgeted in the City Clerk's Election Program in the General Fund (account 001-2220...
