Review and Update Alameda’s 2008 Local Action Plan for Climate Protection
Request that the City Council direct the City Manager to cause review and present an update of Alameda’s 2008 Local Action Plan for Climate Protection and to utilize the efforts and resources of Community Action for a Sustainable Alameda (CASA) and other Alameda groups in this effort.
Justification:
Climate change has become increasingly visible during the last 5 - 7 years of extreme drought in California, directly impacting Alameda’s trees, parklands and residents. As Alameda grows and further develops, it is ever important to address and monitor how we are protecting the local climate.
The plan itself, set goals with target dates in 2020 and anticipated the first review in 2010, seven years ago.
Since 2008, more is known about climate change and potential protections. New technologies and innovations are very likely available to help Alameda protect the environment.
The updated Plan could be useful to Alameda’s many environmental advocacy organizations in organizing and coordinating their efforts for environmental protection.
