Title
Proclamation Declaring May 11 through May 21, 2017 as East Bay Affordable Housing Week. (Housing Authority)
Body
Proclamation
Whereas, quality affordable housing is vital to healthy, safe, diverse and vibrant communities; and
Whereas, rising housing costs have led longtime residents to be displaced, live in overcrowded and substandard homes, or become homeless, threatening our region’s diversity and economic prosperity; and
Whereas, creating new permanently affordable homes and preserving and improving existing housing helps our residents maintain community roots and encourages social and economic diversity for generations; and
Whereas, affordable homes close to public transit and jobs reduce greenhouse gas emissions and provide low income families better access to services and amenities; and
Whereas, non-profit organizations, local jurisdictions, community organizations, faith-based groups, and many others continue to build inclusive communities by providing homes, shelter and support for low-income individuals and those with special needs; and
Whereas, local jurisdictions, such as the City of Alameda play an important role by raising local resources for affordable housing to leverage state, federal, and other funds, including funds from the Measure A1 Alameda County Affordable Housing Bond; and
Whereas, East Bay Housing Organizations has organized Affordable Housing Week for 21 years and will feature 22 events acknowledging the need for and benefits of affordable housing.
Now therefore be it resolved, that I, Trish Herrera Spencer, Mayor of the City of Alameda, hereby proclaim May 11 - 21st, 2017 as the 21st Annual
Affordable Housing Week
in the City of Alameda and encourage residents of Alameda to participate in those activities.
