BACKGROUND

 

On October 6, 2015, the City Council awarded a contract in the amount of $2,350,385, including contingencies, to Mountain Cascade Inc. for the construction of the City’s group 2 sewer pump station renovations for reliability and safety improvements project, No. P.W.03-14-10. This project included renovation work at six pump station sites, including the installation of permanent backup generators where needed, sealing wells, installing multiple pumps, replacing motor controls, installing System Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) alarms, and other safety improvements to provide reliable power to operate the sewer delivery system and prevent sanitary sewer overflows in the event of power failure.  In accordance with requirements of the Consent Decree, this project completed necessary repairs and upgrades to reduce the risk of failure and resulting threat to public health and the environment.

 

DISCUSSION

 

The project was completed in accordance with the plans and specifications, and is acceptable to the Public Works Department. The final cost for this contract, including all extra work orders, is $2,210,513.55.  This is a savings of $139,871.45.

 

FINANCIAL IMPACT

 

The project was budgeted in the Capital Improvement Program (Project No.9100816), with monies from the Sewer Enterprise Fund (Fund 602). There is no impact to the General Fund.

 

MUNICIPAL CODE/POLICY DOCUMENT CROSS REFERENCE

 

This action does not affect the Municipal Code.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW

 

In accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), this project is Categorically Exempt under CEQA Guidelines Section 15301(b), Existing Facilities.

 

RECOMMENDATION

 

Accept the work of Mountain Cascade Inc. for construction of group 2 - sewer pump station renovations for reliability and safety improvements project, No. P.W.03-14-10.
