Whereas, Alameda World Tournament Baseball is organized to provide international baseball competition and cultural exchange for the youth of Alameda; and
Whereas, Alameda World Tournament Baseball was a founding member of the International Boys League Tournament in 1982; and
Whereas, the International Boys League Tournament serves to foster international goodwill and friendship; and
Whereas, Alameda World Tournament Baseball hosted this tournament in 1990, 1996, 2001 and 2008; and
Whereas, Alameda World Tournament Baseball will host the 36th annual tournament this year from August 5th through 12th; and
Whereas, international players will have the opportunity to live with Alameda World Tournament Baseball host families during the 2017 International Boys League Tournament; and
Whereas, the 2017 International Boys League Tournament will allow players, coaches, families and supporters from Asia, Australia, Europe, and North America to experience and share in the hospitality of the City of Alameda.
Now, therefore, be it resolved, that I, Trish Herrera Spencer, Mayor of the City of Alameda, do hereby proclaim August 5-12, 2017 as
Alameda World Tournament Baseball Week
in the City of Alameda and invite all Alameda residents to recognize the importance and influence of the sport of baseball in our city.
