Title
WORK SESSION TO DEVELOP AN OUTREACH STRATEGY FOR LAUNCH OF THE 2017 COMMUNITY NEEDS SURVEY
Body
As an advisory board to the City Council, one of the functions of the SSHRB is to assess and report to the City Council on the social service needs of the people and the methods of meeting those needs. For more than 20 years, the Board has conducted periodic (usually every five years) Community Needs Surveys, which allow it to hear from citizens and service providers about what they believe to be the highest priority needs in our community.
The last survey was conducted in 2011, and a Summary Report was provided to the City Council in 2012. More than 1,900 Alameda households responded to the survey which was conducted primarily online, and available in English, Spanish, and Chinese.
The Board’s Assessment and Awareness Workgroup has worked over the past year to develop a new survey which will be launched in mid-October 2017. Presentations of the draft survey were made to the City of Alameda’s Commission on Disability’s Issues (CDI), Transportation Commission staff, and Alameda Healthcare System\Alameda Hospital Advisory Board. Input received from the above parties was incorporated into the final survey.
In preparation for the survey launch, the Board is meeting as a Committee of the Whole to develop a strategy to assure that all facets of the community have access to, and are encouraged to participate in, the 2017 Community Needs Survey.
