BACKGROUND

At the September 7, 2017 Recreation and Parks Commission meeting, the Commission requested an overview of all City of Alameda Park Rules and Regulations.

DISCUSSION

The following outlines all park rules and regulations that are enforceable per the Alameda Municipal Code. These rules are posted at all city parks in multiple locations and are summarized below.

23-1.3 Riding of Bicycles and Skateboards in Parks, Etc.
It shall be unlawful for any person to operate or ride a bicycle, skateboard, or skates within any public park, playground school property or parking lot, except that a person may ride to and from bicycle racks or lockers. Skateboards, roller skates and in-line skates are authorized at the Skate Park but persons shall be wearing a helmet, elbow pads and knee pads.

23-1.4 Motor Vehicles Prohibited in or Upon Public Parks and Beaches
It shall be unlawful for any person to operate or park any motor vehicle in any public park or beach within the City. This does not apply to emergency vehicles or under authorization for maintenance and other necessary governmental functions.

23-1.5 Hours of Public Use of Parks.
Under this ordinance, the Recreation and Parks Commission shall, by resolution, establish the times during which each park is open to the public. Most park hours are generally dawn to dusk. Parks that have lighted athletic facilities are open until 10:00 p.m. when the athletic facility lights are turned off automatically.

23-1.6 Hours of Public Use of the Fishing Platform East of the Miller-Sweeney Bridge
It shall be unlawful for any person to be present on the pier, deck or platform and entryway east of the Miller-Sweeney Bridge between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.
