Date of submission to City Clerk (must be submitted before 5:00 p.m. on the Monday two weeks before the Council meeting requested): December 15, 2017
Council Meeting date: January 2, 2018
Brief description of the subject to be printed on the agenda, sufficient to inform the City Council and public of the nature of the referral:
This referral requests that the City Council considers banning motorized commercial vehicles, including robotic commercial vehicles, from sidewalks and commercial drone aircraft used for deliveries from Alameda.
Supporting Information
The purpose of sidewalks is to provide a safe and convenient space for pedestrians and those with personal mobility devices to move about the City. At least one commercial delivery vehicle has been reported being seen using the sidewalks in a residential area west of Webster Street.
Allowing motorized commercial vehicles, including robotic vehicles, on sidewalks could impede pedestrian and those with limited mobility in using sidewalk and should not be allowed. Alameda's peaceful atmosphere will be unnecessarily disrupted should drone delivery aircraft be allowed to operate in Alameda.
