Re: Adoption of Resolution Approving Receipt of Revenue from the Caltrans Adaptation Planning Grant Program for Fiscal Year 2017-18, for Preparation of the City of Alameda Climate Adaptation Plan

BACKGROUND

On May 2, 2017, the City Council unanimously approved a high-priority referral directing staff to update Alameda's 2008 Local Action Plan for Climate Protection (Climate Plan). Staff was directed to return to City Council by December 2017 with a proposed scope of work for the Climate Plan's update, and to ensure involvement of Community Action for a Sustainable Alameda (CASA), and other interested Alameda environmental groups and organizations.

On October 20, 2017, the City of Alameda filed an application for funding a climate adaptation plan, which would be a component of the City's Climate Plan update. The grant application amount was $236,375 and it was submitted to the Fiscal Year 2017-18 California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) Senate Bill No. 1 Adaptation Planning Grant Program.

On December 5, 2017, the City Council approved a draft scope of work for the Climate Plan update. The portions of that approved scope related to climate adaptation matched the City's application for funding from Caltrans.

On December 15, 2017, Caltrans announced that the City of Alameda was awarded the requested $236,375 to assist with the creation of the Climate Adaptation Plan.
