BACKGROUND

In recent years, the Community Development Department has invested in technologies to improve public access to Planning-related information. Information about pending Planning applications are directly available through these online tools. Staff will provide a short demonstration of these tools at the March 26th Planning Board meeting. They include:

* Accela Permit Tracking System - Accela is a comprehensive permit tracking system used by thousands of governmental agencies internationally. It provides an online portal, locally called "ePermits" that allows public access to all pending and past permit records dating back to the mid-1990s. Members of the public may also apply for simple permits, such as reroofing and water heater permits online. Since 2013, Planning has transitioned most Design Review applications from traditional hardcopy project folders to electronic project files in Accela, which is accessible to any member of the public via http://aca.accela.com/alameda

* BuildingEye - BuildingEye takes permit information in Accela and presents it on a City map. Users see permit applications as dots on the map and are able to access information by clicking on these visual markers. BuildingEye connects directly to the ePermit portal allowing the public to access permit documents. A subscription tool also allows users to receive notifications on permit activity within a geographic area. https://alameda.buildingeye.com/

* CommunityView - CommunityView takes the City's GIS (Geographic Information System) layers and presents them in an easy-to-use online map. The GIS contains basic parcel information, zoning map, General Plan Diagram, and FEMA flood map information. The GIS also identifies properties listed on Alameda's Historical Buildings Study List. https://alam...
