Whereas,                      the City of Alameda includes many older Americans who richly contribute to the fabric of our country; and

                     

Whereas,                     Mastick Senior Center is committed to supporting older adults as they take charge of their health, explore new opportunities and activities, and focus on independence; and

 

Whereas,                     Mastick Senior Center, a division of the City of Alameda Recreation & Parks Department (ARPD), provides a variety of programs and services in the areas of health, education and recreation to meet the needs of adults age 50 and older. The Center serves the residents of Alameda as well as surrounding cities. Membership is free and is required to participate in Mastick Senior Center programs and services; and

 

Whereas,                     the City of Alameda provides opportunities to enrich the lives of community members of all ages by encouraging older adults to remain active and participate in our community and to advocate for themselves and others; promoting home and community-based services that support independent living; and providing opportunities for older adults  to share their experiences.

 

Now therefore, be it resolved, that I, Trish Herrera Spencer, Mayor of the City of Alameda, do hereby proclaim May 2018 to be

Older Americans Month

in the City of Alameda. I encourage every resident to take time during this month to recognize older Americans as influential and valued members of our community and thank them for their contributions to our country.
