Re: Recommendation to Accept the 2018/2019 City Council Workplan
BACKGROUND
On February 17, 2017, the Alameda City Council met for a public Priority Setting Workshop with the City's Executive Management Team to discuss the Council's vision, strategic initiatives, and priorities. As the City embarks on the mid-cycle budget process, Council is again meeting to review the Key Strategies identified last year, check-in on what has been accomplished over the last year and provide direction on a draft City Council Workplan for the coming year.
The draft 2018/2019 City Council Workplan is organized by Key City Strategies identified by City Council at the February 2017 workshop. These focus areas are:
* Address Housing/Homelessness
* Mitigate Traffic Congestion
* Take Action on Climate Change and Emergency Preparedness
* Improve Local Economy and Attract Jobs
* Maintain Safety & Quality of Life
* Plan for Fiscal and Organizational Stability
* Improve Public Infrastructure (new)
"Improve Public Infrastructure" was embedded within other 2017 focus areas; however in the draft 2018/2019 City Council Workplan, this category was added as a new focus area, due to its importance and significant financial impact.
In addition to providing direction on the 2018/2019 City Council Workplan, accomplishments from the actions taken by Council in the last year will be displayed on the wall at the May 18, 2018 meeting. For those unable to attend the meeting, these accomplishments also appear at the end of the attached presentation.
