Proclamation
Whereas, lead poisoning poses a threat to residents of all ages, especially children under the age of six and those with developmental disabilities; and
Whereas, each year, International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week and National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week bring together individuals, organizations, industry, and state and local governments to help increase lead awareness and reduce childhood exposure to lead; and
Whereas, lead poisoning can have devastating effects, including delayed growth, learning disabilities, cognitive and behavior disorders, and even death. Even more alarming, lead poisoning tends to have little or no early visible symptoms and often goes undetected; and
Whereas, lead is commonly found in old paint, soil and water. If you believe your child may have lead poisoning, it is crucial to contact their health care provider immediately; and
Whereas, because it is vital that our residents are healthy and we have a safe environment, Code Enforcement Officers provide for the safety, health, and welfare of our residents through the enforcement of local, state, and federal laws and ordinances; and
Whereas, Code Enforcement Officers have challenging and demanding roles and often do not receive recognition for the job they do in improving quality of life for residents and businesses of our community.
Now, therefore be it resolved, that I, Trish Herrera Spencer, Mayor of the City of Alameda, do hereby proclaim October 21-27, 2018 as
Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Week
Now, therefore be it further resolved, that I, Trish Herrera Spencer, Mayor of the City of Alameda, do hereby proclaim October 8-14, 2018 as
Code Enforcement Officer Appreciation Week
