EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

 

The City Council is required to adopt a resolution to certify the results of the General Municipal Election. 

 

BACKGROUND

 

Elections Code Section 10262 requires the governing body of the City to adopt a resolution declaring the results of an election.

 

DISCUSSION

 

The Certificates of Election for the Consolidated General Municipal Election held on November 6, 2018 are attached. 

 

Offices:

                     Candidate Marilyn Ezzy Ashcraft received the highest number of votes cast for and was, therefore, elected to the office of Mayor.

 

                     Candidates -----John Knox White and Tony Daysog received the highest number of votes cast for and were, therefore, elected to the office of Councilmember.   Additionally, since Marilyn Ezzy Ashcraft was elected to the office of Mayor and has two years remaining on her term, pursuant to Charter Section 2-7(A), Jim Oddie receiving the third highest number of votes cast for and was, therefore, elected to the office of Councilmember for a two year term. 

 

Measures:

Measure F, the Essential Services Protection Act, passed by a majority vote.  The ordinance adding Sections 3-63 (Transaction and Use Tax) to the Alameda Municipal Code takes effect April 1, 2019.

 

Measure K, the Proposed City of Alameda Charter Amendment Making the “City of Alameda Rent Review, Rent Stabilization and Limitation on Evictions Ordinance” a part of the City Charter, did not pass because it did not receive a majority vote.

 

FINANCIAL IMPACT

 

The funds for this election are budgeted in the City Clerk’s Election Program in the General Fund (account 001-2220-61060).

City Charter Section 2-7 (A), Alameda Municipal Code Section 3-63 and Elections Code Section 10262.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW

 

Environmental review is not required to certify the results of the City’s municipal election.

 

RECOMMENDATION

 

Adopt a resolution declaring canvass of returns and results of the Consolidated General Municipal Election held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018.
