Re: Adopt a Resolution Establishing the Hours of Public Use of Parks
BACKGROUND
The City of Alameda Municipal Code, Chapter 23-1.5 is the Hours of Public Use of Parks. This ordinance requires that the Recreation and Park Commission establish the times during which parks are open to the public by resolution. Tonight’s item is intended to be the initial discussion of park hours and a resolution will be brought to the Commission’s March meeting for approval.
On February 14, 2019, the Recreation and Parks Commission discussed the draft Park Rules and Regulations and provided feedback. The Commissioners agreed with the hours of operation as presented.
DISCUSSION
Alameda Recreation and Parks Department staff have been reviewing Park rules and regulations to update them to current language and standards. Park hours are currently posted as dawn to dusk. This is no longer accurate for parks that have lighted athletic facilities such as fields and tennis courts. The parks with lighted facilities include Washington, Leydecker, Woodstock, and Krusi Parks.
Staff recommends that the park hours continue to be dawn to dusk and park areas with lighted athletic facilities are dawn to 10:00 p.m. This is the end time for all approved athletic facility rental usage and lights are programmed to turn off at this time as well.
RECOMMENDATION
To adopt a resolution that establishes the hours of public use of parks
Respectfully submitted,
Amy Wooldridge, Recreation and Parks Director
