EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Rosas Brothers Construction (Rosas Brothers) was contracted by the City of Alameda (City) for sidewalk replacement and in Fiscal Year (FY) 2018-19, Rosas Brothers replaced 68,208 square feet of sidewalk, 4,856 square feet of 4" driveway, and 525 linear feet of curb to repair damage caused primarily by City maintained street trees.

BACKGROUND

On July 18, 2017, the Alameda City Council (City Council) awarded a competitively bid construction contract for $1,001,575, including contingencies, to Rosas Brothers for the repair of concrete sidewalk, curb, gutter, driveway, and minor street patching. Although sidewalk maintenance is the responsibility of the abutting property owner, the City is responsible to repair damage caused by City maintained street trees. In awarding the contract, the City Council authorized extensions for up to four additional years. On September 20, 2018, the City entered into the first contract extension with an annual contract amount of $1,031,458.

DISCUSSION

The FY 2018-19 contract has been completed and is acceptable to the Public Works Department. Approximately 68,208 square feet of sidewalk was replaced, 4,856 square feet of 4" driveway was replaced, and 525 linear feet of curb was replaced. The final annual contract cost for Rosas Brothers, including extra work orders, is $905,174. All remaining, unspent funds will be allocated to the FY 2019-20 sidewalk repair program.
